Frequently Asked Questions

Is this your full time job?

Well, yes and no- I am a mommy FIRST. This is my full time career.

Are you a teacher?

Once a teacher, always a teacher! I am a professionally trained teacher. That's what I went to school for but I am not currently working in a school. Instead, I am teaching through my stories and helping others to self-publish!

Do you do illustrations for other authors?

I can, yes. Let's talk further about what you are looking for. Every author is unique. There is not a "one-size-fits-all" when it comes to picture book illustration and all it entails.

Would you be willing to donate a book or products to my cause?

I love to partner with others. Let's talk more about what your needs are and how I may be able to bring value to your cause.

Do you help others self-publish?

Yes! I have learned a lot during my self-publishing journey. Let's see what questions you have! I probably had the same questions at one time. I may have already found the answer!

I want to send you something. Where can I send it?

Sure. Send it to Lindsay Dain at His Little Light of Mine, Ste. 102 PMB 296, 1610 S 31st Sr, Temple, TX 76504-6726

Do you do author visits?

Of course I do! I am in central Texas, so local ones are easy to attend. I am always open to discussing the possibilities of further travel. Virtual events are a possibility as well.

Do you do virtual author visits?

Absolutely! Let's talk about your specific needs and get started!

You do fundraisers? How do you do that?

Yes! We agree on a date and time frame. Your community orders my products. I will either ship them or deliver them to you based on your location. After the fundraiser has closed, I will calculate the profits from the sales from your community and give you a check for 50%!

Do you do public speaking events?

I am happy to discuss it with you. Every event has different needs. Let's talk about it and see if we can make it happen!

Do you have any training in art or anything?

No, not professionally. My training is in Elementary Education, American Sign Language, English as a Second Language and Deaf Education. I do love to draw and we did a lot of art during Covid! It was "practice" and I didn't even know it! You do not need to be professionally trained to go for your dreams!

What do you use to do your art?

I have an iPad Pro 12.9, a 2nd generation Apple Pencil and the Procreate app. If you go on "My Favorites," I have affiliate links to all of the products that I use. :)

Does it cost a lot to self-publish?

No, it doesn't have to cost much at all. It costs time. There is a lot to learn but TOTALLY DO-ABLE and you don't have to have a lot of money to get started.

What do you use to make your videos?

I use a free app called InShot! It is amazing!

Do you make your stuff in Canva?

I use Canva a lot! I use it to create all my marketing materials, social media stuff and even some videos. I also use it to format my books. I DO NOT use any of the art or their fonts for anything that I sell. My illustrations are mine. I have purchased my fonts for commercial use. There is a "logo maker." Don't use it. You can't trademark it later! This is very important. I'm happy to elaborate more if you want to chat!

How do you know how to do all this stuff?

YOU-TUBE! I have learned probably 95% of everything related to this new career on YouTube! The rest has been through relationships and talking to other people. We have access to so much information now. It doesn't cost money, but it does require time, patience and grace. I don't know it all and don't usually do it right the first time. There is always a learning curve. That makes it even sweeter when I succeed in each challenge I face! It is so, so worth it!

I am not alone though! I can't do any of this stuff without God! He is with me and helping me every step of the way....giving me ideas, opening doors of opportunity for me, bringing me to the right people..... I think my FAITH has been the biggest influence in this journey!
